In this installation method, the servo drives the throw bar through a hole in the subroadbed. The turnout is attached directly to the roadbed with double-stick tape. It takes 5 minutes to install a turnout this way!
In this closeup of the servo horn you can see how we bent a piece of 0.20" spring wire to attach it to the servo horn. By placing the wire around the back of the horn, the attachment screw is not blocked making it easy to center the horn on the servo or to make small adjustments.
Using a crank to drive the throwbar
This is the way to retro-fit existing turnouts. A small hole is drilled between the ties about 3/8" away from the tie bar and a 1/16" tube inserted. A piece of .020" spring wire is then bent and put in the hole to make a crank. With the switch points blocked in the center o the throw, the servo is attached to the bottom of the subroadbed.
